Prompt Engineering Power-Up!
What is Prompt Engineering?
Think of an LLM as a super-smart robot that's ready for instructions. Prompt Engineering is the art of giving it the BEST possible instructions. It's the difference between saying "write about dogs" and saying "Write a funny poem about a sneaky chihuahua who thinks he's a secret agent. The poem should be four stanzas long and have an A-B-A-B rhyme scheme." The better the prompt, the better the result!
Key Techniques
- Be Specific: Don't be vague! Include details about the topic, tone, format, and length you want.
- Provide Persona: Tell the AI who to be. "Act as a NASA flight director from the 1960s..." will give you very different text than "Act as a pirate..."
- Give Examples (Few-Shot Prompting): Show the AI exactly what you want by giving it examples right in the prompt.
Example of a persona prompt:
You are a cynical, coffee-addicted detective in a 1940s noir film. Write a short journal entry about the mysterious case of the missing donut.
Lab: The Prompt Challenge
Time to practice! Your challenge is to write the best prompt you can to achieve a goal. Open a new chat with an LLM and try to complete one of the following tasks. Keep tweaking your prompt until you get a result you love!
- Generate a creative name and slogan for a new brand of 90s-themed cereal.
- Write a short, dramatic movie scene between a talking squirrel and a grumpy cat.
- Create a step-by-step recipe for a crazy, imaginary food like "Galaxy Lava Cake."
